Frequently
Asked Questions
What is this program about?
The Canadian Critical Care Review Program is an annual preparation (PREP) review course designed for all Critical Care Trainees who are completing their training in Canada. The review course is intended as a knowledge consolidation and assessment exercise.
Who can attend
this course?
All critical care fellows who are
completing their training in an RCPSC accredited CCM residency training
program may attend this course. The course is also open to critical care consultants who are interested in reviewing ICU topics.
Is there
any fee?
All course materials and meals are provided at a minimal cost of $300.00 if you are a Canadian participant and a registered resident in a Canadian Critical Care training program. Licensed Canadian Practitioners who are not in a Canadian Critical Care training program can also participate at a cost of $650.00 if you are a member of the Canadian Critical Care Society or $750.00 for non-members. Please note, fees will increase by $100.00 after the Early Bird Registration Deadline of April 7, 2012.
Registrants are responsible for their own travel and accommodations.
What topics
are covered?
In total, about 20 topics are presented covering the major specialty
areas within critical care.
How are the
topics chosen?
Final year critical care fellows complete a needs
assessment form that identifies core topics needed within critical care. The top 40
topics are ranked; and speakers are recommended by the residents and
recruited by the co-chairs.
Who are the speakers?
Speakers are chosen from educational institutions
across Canada and are selected based on their expertise and familiarity with each selected topic.
Please note, the Critical Care Review Program is not sponsored by the
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. All Royal College Examiners
have been excluded from participating with this program or providing any input into to selected topics
and contents of the material covered within each topic.
What type of feedback has been received from previous attendees?
Past programs have provided overwhelmingly positive feedback from the
participants in this regard. Feedback from the 2011 program show:
- 100% felt that the overall quality of the review program was excellent
- 97% felt that the review program met its educational objectives
- 89% indicated that touch pad technology helped to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses
- 100% would recommend the program to their colleagues
Does the course cover everything in critical care?
Cost and time issues necessitate some limitations; as such, only the top-ranked
topics identified in the needs assessments are selected.
Have you looked at webcasts or other similar "distance learning tools”?
Yes, however, cost issues do not permit such alternatives at this time.
